Sheri-D Wilson

Poet, performer, film-maker, educator, producer and activist

Sheri-D Wilson has seven collections of poetry; her most recent, Autopsy of a Turvy World ( Frontenac House), followed Re:Zoom, which won the 2006 Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry, and was shortlisted for the CanLit Award. She has two spoken word CDs, and four award-winning VideoPoems including: Airplane Paula, Spinsters Hanging in Trees, and Panty Portal (BravoFACT). In 2009 Sheri-D was chosen as one of the Top Ten Poets in Canada by CBC Arts, in 2007 Heart of a Poet produced a half hour documentary about her, and in 2003 she won the USA Heavyweight of Poetry title.

She has performed all over the world, with highlights which include: maelstrÖm 2010 (Brussels), Blue Met 2009 (Montreal), Voix d'Amériques 2008,'05 (Montréal), Bumbershoot 2003, '99, '92, '91, '89 (Seattle), Vancouver International Writers Festival 2007, '02, '00, '95, '93, '90 (Vancouver), Taos Poetry Circus 2002 (Taos, New Mexico), Poetry Africa 2001 (South Africa), WordFest 2008, 2000, '95 (Calgary, Banff), Harbourfront Reading Series 1993 (Toronto), Small Press Festival 1990 (NYC).

Since founding the Calgary Spoken Word Festival in 2003, Sheri-D has worked at quantum velocities to present one of the most respected spoken word festivals in Canada. Since 2008, she has been Director of the Spoken Word Program at The Banff Centre.
