Shane Koyczan

Born and raised in Yellowknife, North West Territories, Shane Koyczan was the first poet from outside the USA to win the prestigious USA National Individual Poetry Slam. Koyczan has published two books, a poetry collection Visiting Hours, and a novel in verse, Stickboy. Visiting Hours was selected by both the Guardian and Globe and Mail for their 2005 Best Books of the Year lists. Shane was featured in Quill & Quire magazine in May 2006. He has performed to full houses around the world. Koyczan has rocked the stage at the Edinburgh Book Festival, the Vancouver International Writers Festival, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and was named the highlight of The Hillside Festival in Guelph in 2009. He performed at the 2007 Canada Day Celebrations in Ottawa, where he opened for Feist. His recent performance at the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies brought the 55,000+ seat house to their feet with his homage to Canada We Are More.
